Frequently asked questions

How do I unlock the app?

Enter the real passcode you created during setup. If you set a decoy passcode, entering that one instead opens a harmless web page rather than your vault.

I forgot my passcode. Can you reset it?

No — and this is by design. Veil Cam stores nothing on any server, so there's no way for us (or anyone) to recover or reset your passcode. If you're locked out, the only option is to delete and reinstall the app, which also permanently removes any recordings stored inside it. Please keep your passcode somewhere safe.

Where are my recordings? They're not in my Photos app.

That's intentional. Recordings are kept in Veil Cam's own private library, not the system Photos app. Open the app, unlock it, and go to the Library tab to find your video, photos, and audio.

Why doesn't recording work in the Simulator?

Camera and microphone capture require real hardware, so recording only works on a physical iPhone or iPad.

How do I change the app icon or passcodes?

Open the app and go to the Settings tab. You can reset your passcodes under Security, change the home-screen icon under Appearance, and adjust recording options and the decoy web page there as well.

Does the app use any internet connection?

Only when you deliberately load a web page (such as the Web Browsing capture mode or the decoy page). All recording and storage happens entirely offline on your device.

Which devices and iOS versions are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.

Recording laws differ from place to place, and some require the consent of everyone being recorded. Veil Cam is intended to help you protect your own privacy and safety. Please use it lawfully and respect the privacy of others.
